Spring Grove Cemetery, Cincinnati, Ohio

Historic Spring Grove Cemetery, located in Cincinnati, Ohio is the final resting place for over 40 Civil War generals and politicians. The cemetery, open to the public, is known world-wide for its beautiful grounds.

Years ago, the Cincinnati CWRT undertook the project of identifying the grave sites of every major Civil War figure buried there. This project was initially completed by Round Table members Jim Barnett and Paul Ashworth. Click on the map image at the right for a full-size map locating over forty generals buried in Spring Grove.

For biographical sketches of the forty Union generals buried at Spring Grove Cemetery, see Jim Barnett's classic article, Forty For The Union from the Cincinnati Historical Society Bulletin, Summer 1972. See also Mr. Barnett's biographical sketches for the CCWRT Canister in 1968 of several Civil War veterans buried at Spring Grove Cemetery:

In recent years, Round Table members Dave Mowery and Jack Simon have been hosting tours of the cemetery, focusing on different elements of its Civil War history.

See photos and information from Jack Simon's Veterans Day 2007 tour of Civil War Medal of Honor Winners and the 5th OVI Monument here .
